TIMELINE
1988 (Feb 13) – Wrote poem The Parting in about twenty minutes, as had missed school and missed the homework the day before. Teacher Mr Mower sat and shook his head in amazement that a 13 year-old could have written such a thing.
1990 (June-ish) – Wrote poem Panic Attack which would later become my first published poem.
1991 – English teacher Mr Hayden told me “You have a very fluent writing style”.
1992 (Spring) – Panic Attack published by the Forward Press in Contemporary Verse 1992.
1994 (Late Sep) – Began work on first novel The Intersection.
1995 (Feb 28) – Began making notes for second novel, at that time entitled Suffolk Dead.
1996 (Feb) – 1997 (Mar) – Had a series of 7 articles printed in the Suffolk Libraries and Heritage Newsletter Magazine.
1996 (Jun 20) – Completed The Intersection, and would never work on it again. It reached about 55,000 words.
1997 (Summer) – Sent The Intersection to Anchor Books for an opinion. Reply was complimentary, recognising that I have talent and asking if I would submit further works in the future.
1997 (don’t recall when) – Began working with notes taken for Suffolk Dead.
1997 (Late Sep) – Abandoned Suffolk Dead for a Reevesian and Mortimerian novel to be known as No-one Butters The Toast Like You.
1998 (Apr 23) – Book review published in local weekly newspaper Suffolk Free Press.
1998 (May 5) – Wrote poem Homesick.
1998 (Dec 19 & 20) – Wrote poem Unearthed Roots.
1999 (Jun 29) – Met Matthew Stennett (someone who should STOP Googling himself online because I’ve noticed he does it every so often!) online – this was the key moment where I realised that my path lay in comedy.
1999 (Jul 17) – Met my muse James Alexander “Bushwick” Thaw online.
1999 (Summer) – Wrote TV script Agoraphobia Festival.
2000 (Jan 24) – Created the first issue of Turquoise Floyd Magazine
2000 (Feb 1) – Created the second issue of Turquoise Floyd Magazine. Began a third issue but never showed it to anyone.
2000 (Spring) – Wrote two drafts of No-one Butters The Toast Like You, one structured from all the notes made and stripped right down to bare bones amounting to 37,000 words; the second a much embellished version that reached 83,000 words. Submitted both versions to Anchor. Both turned down.
2000 (Oct) – Wrote poem Ancient Song.
2000 (Oct 15) – Wrote poem Philsophy.
2000 (Nov 1) – Death of my Granny. I have a poem somewhere that I wrote for her one birthday, called Granny’s Kitchen but I haven’t seen it for a while.
2000 (Dec 4) – Wrote poem Original Secret.
2001 (Jan 17) – Wrote poem Where I Stand With Poetry.
2001 (Apr 13) – Wrote poem The Poet’s Biography as seen on the Home page of this website.
2001 (Spring) – Set aside No-one Butters The Toast Like You forever as it didn’t look like it would ever sell.
2001 (Summer) – Had poems The Parting and Homesick published by Poetry Today in Eastern Voices 2001 and Mind Games respectively.
2002 (Jan 11) – Wrote poem The Universe Dies Right Now.
2002 (May 30) – Wrote poem Looking For Sunflowers In Science.
2002 (Jun 12) – Met my muse James in the flesh for the first time.
2002 (Aug 1) – Wrote poem The Rock So Big, Even God Can’t Move It.
2002 (Aug 29) – Began work on At Last, The End of The World Show which would later mutate into a 30,000 word long novella otherwise known as “The God Project”.
2002 (Aug 31) – Poem Unearthed Roots published by Poetry Today in their anthology Fragments in Perception.
2002 (Summer) – Had a selection of my short stories assessed by Literary Scouts The Hilary Johnson Agency, they handed me the Excalibur of Comedy and showered praise upon me and my talent!
2002 (Oct 31) – Poems Where I Stand With Poetry and Looking For Sunflowers In Science published by Poetry Now in Poetic Evolution and Soul Bearer respectively.
2002 (Nov 13) – Death of my muse James. Vowed to dedicate my first published novel to him.
2002 (Nov 21) – Wrote poem Paradox Song.
2003 (Feb 14) – Wrote poem Poem Where Winter Meets Spring.
2003 (Feb 16) – Wrote poem The Tide.
2003 (Mar 15) – Began editing Agoraphobia Festival for possible submission to a TV company.
2003 (Mar 31) – Poems The Rock So Big… and Paradox Song published by Poetry Now in A Crossroads in Time and Individual Voices respectively.
2003 (Apr 19) – Poem The Tide accepted for publication by The Forward Press.
2003 (Jul 26) – Story Congratulations On Purchasing Your Brand New Man is selected as a Runner-up in the Biscuit Publishing Annual Short Story Competition. The story will be included in an anthology to be published in October.
2003 (Jul 31) – The Tide is published by Poetry Now in the anthology Dedicated To You.
2003 (Oct 31) – The Sensitively Thin Bill of the Shag is published, which includes my story Congratulations…
2004 (Mar) – Set aside The God Project to allow myself time to work out the weaknesses and how to fix them.
2004 (Mar 07) – Met my new muse and chief critic James Riches online.
2004 (May 02) – Began work on the long-awaited Darth Floyd novel.
2004 (May 04) – Met James Riches in the flesh. We were a couple by the end of the day!
2004 (Aug 12) – Came up with the whole Seven Worlds shebang!
2004 (Dec 13) – Completed the first draft of the long-awaited Darth Floyd novel.
2005 (Jan 15) – Began work on the second draft of the long-awaited Darth Floyd novel whilst Jimmy read the first draft.
2005 (Sep
– Finished second draft of Darth Floyd.
2005 (Nov 1) – Began first draft of World Two, The Moseley Road novel.
2006 (Jun 9) – Finished first draft of The Moseley Road Novel.
2006 (Oct 3) – James Riches finishes with me.
2006 (Oct 6) – Decide to take part in NaNoWriMo 2006. Will be writing World Three, No Prophet in Peace.
2006 (Nov 9) – Gave up on Nanowrimo as I felt No Prophet in Peace was proceeding too quickly.
Late 2006 / early 2007 – redrafted Clones To The Left of Me again.
2007 (22 Mar) – Self-published Clones To The Left of Me on Lulu.com.
2007 (6 Apr) – Began a second draft of The Martians Could Land In The Car Park….
2007 (22 May) – To date, sold 22 copies of Clones To The Left of Me.
2007 (9 Sep) – Began a fourth draft of Clones To The Left of Me.
2008 (18 Mar) – To date, sold 36 copies of Clones To The Left of Me.
